As I assume many of you do, I occasionally search “project” in my local craigslist listings. When doing that I came across this vehicle and brand that I’d never heard of before, the Asuna Sunfire. Turns out it’s just a bit of badge engineering by GM (what a crazy thing for them do; I’m utterly shocked!). The car is a 1993 Isuzu Piazza/Impulse. Asuna was a short lived brand for Canada only, caused by the success of Geo. The car is beat... but at 375 CAD (300 USD) it’s kinda cool.

I was going to say “isn’t that just an Isuzu Impulse?” but, you already did.

Asin Transmission, parts are unobtanium, service is same. Vehicle is worth exactly it’s value in scrap metal.

I have an original dealership pamphlet for the whole ‘Passport’ scheme that GM had going on in Canada that spawned Asuna! :D
My pamphlet is for the Isuzu Stylus and Isuzu Impulse, so BEFORE the Asuna name was used, but Asuna was only used for like...one year!
Here you go! :D

I remember when those were new.
In Canada, Asuna was paired with Pontiac dealers and Geo was paired with Chevrolet dealers.
And part of the Asuna brand was one of the most whored out car designs of all time... The car known as the Asuna GT (hatchback), Asuna SE (sedan), Chevrolet Kadett, Chevrolet Ipanema, Daewoo LeMans/Pointer/Heaven/Fantasy/Racer/1.5i, Opel Kadett E, Opel Astra, Passport Optima, Pontiac Lemans, Vauxhall Astra and Vauxhall Belmont.

The Asuna Sunfire wasn’t nearly as much of an automotive whore...

I want to say they had a badge that said,”handling by Lotus” on them as well.
BmanUltima's car still hasn't been fixed yet, he'll get on it tomorrow, honest.

Asuna is, by far, the best GM brand to go defunct. Closely followed by Acadian.
